The Waste & Environmental Management Program
University of the West of Scotland in partnership with Diaspora Communities Support Service has designed a 21 days, tailor made program to deliver provision in the key themes of recycling, sanitary landfill, technologies useful for waste management, waste to energy, and other relevant linked areas, drawing on existing content from the PgDip / MSc in Waste and Resource Management including:
- Environmental / Waste Systems
- Sustainable Environmental / Waste Management
- Concepts and Tools in Environmental / Waste Technology
- Pollution Control
- Waste Management Techniques
- Process Principles for Clean Technologies
This program also includes content from other UWS provision including:
- Project Management
- Financial Management
This special course content recognizes the diversity of professional practioners from various backgrounds and hence some aspects have to be adjusted to suit the cohort of participants. In addition to the academic content, the course has a significant (50/50 split) practical / site visit element. The delegates will visit and see existing successful waste management, recycling and environmental facilities in other urban areas with the suggestion being that there is at a minimum, visits to facilities in Glasgow and
London. If possible, a visit to facilities also in Germany. A final element will include building in one day at each main location (Glasgow, London, Berlin) for landmark evaluation to allow the participants to establish the types of buildings and facilities in each
location and establish the types of waste / environmental issues
that would be created.
The course is to be for approximately 21 days residential, with costs
inclusive of travel, accommodation, and meals.
